Essentially, this is like an extended version of Season 1 of Castlevania, in that it acts much more as a way to establish all the players, the factions, the stakes and the tone, the last of which is actually too consistent, the entire Season offering virtually zero minutes of actual levity. However, it does suffer from one catastrophic problem: The more interesting facets of the story are almost always on the outset, so while you would like to see how things play out in this interesting world, the great moments are continuously deferred, with most of the engaging moments actually being unexpected interruptions of the flow of events. Season 1 of Into The Badlands does a great job of creating an atmosphere thick with conflict, making you genuinely wonder how the story will continue, combined with some genuinely excellent action sequences.
